OK, so check it out, myself and a friend have been discussing doing this for quite a while now and are finally ready to formulate the very first "official" (or unofficial :) ) syllabus containing all the weird balletic terminology that dancers have heard, or been asked to execute over the years by people who, um, well, really don't know a thing about balletic terminology. This is more or less a joke but in a way it is tragically needed to legitimize these terms which somehow, someway, always seem to find their way into the studio.

Our title for this project, "The Dolly Dinkle Syllabus" which should, or atleast I hope, be self explanatory.

However we cannot complete the project without your help. We are currently seeking terminology submissions to formulate our beta 1.0 version of the syllabus. Each term will be listed with as best an explanation of the actual definition in real balletic terminology so a reader can easily understand what it means. No actual names or studio/company references will be listed, only the term and as best a definition as possible for what it is, and with permission, the name of the person who submitted it will be displayed in the syllabus.

If over the years you heard of or have been subjected to a term that just didn't make sense or belong to any existing syllabus yet you were told it was absolutely correct and valid terminology we want to hear from you.

So far we have about 30 terms but still need many many more before we publish them all. Here is just one example;

Term: "Toe to Floor" Definition: Tendu

I kid you not folks, I kid you not.[/b]

Curious indeed :shock: we have over 100 terms so far :D still need more though.

Latest few;

Term - "Five Forty" Definition: Injury

Term - "Skip skip" Definition: Chasse

We are hoping to have a good rough draft by the end of December. I will post the progress on this thread. :wink:
