As I was listening to the inauguration this morning on NPR on my way to work this morning, I was struck by the exceeding amount of music and decided lack of dance. I also thought that dancing in all that cold would be dangerous. I am amused I was not the only one to have these thoughts.

When I'm inaugurated there will be dance. Maybe Bandaloop or De La Guarda would do something soaring from the walls of the Capital building.

Now my head is spinning with possibilities.

On a less satirical note, President Kennedy was a big supporter of the arts, and had ballet performances in the East Room. I hope that President Obama will do something similar.

Has there ever been dancing at an inauguration?

Probably not; I'm not sure how they'd integrate it into the ceremony and ever since the inauguration date was moved from March to January, I'd worry about asking dancers to perform in 20 degree (that's 6.9 degrees, Celsius) temperatures.

My thought exactly. And there is hardly enough room for all the dignitaries on the stage let alone room for a few dancers.

Well, I'd rather have dancers than dignitaries. Maybe we could burn some Congressmembers for heat....

Hmm, I like it. they are a renewable resource. Plenty more where those came from, and full of hot air.

Yes, I see what you mean with the temperatures and all.
Hmmm, dancers in snow-suits?
Swinging from cables?
Balancing on the railings?

Oh, well... perhaps at the next luncheon...

Seriously, I wonder if the portable stage that was built so that the Kenndys could host ballet performances in the East Room is still around.

It was probably burned for warmth during the last energy crisis.
