Given that Corella, while a spectacular dancer, has little to no experience in the artistic/choreographic/organizational side of dance companies (that I know of...), I suspect he will leave the majority of the running of the company to people with more experience, and use his reknown and dancing abilities to help the company in publicity and fund-raising.

It could also be that, if he does intend to spend more time in Spain, Morphoses which will be part based in London, might be a very attractive option for him.

Yes, this makes sense. It might be.

And of course, as I said, I will do my best to go to London for Morphoses venue at Sadler's Wells: Sept. 19 - 23, 2007 (with Corella, Ansanelli among others)

As far as his Company is concerned, some of the a bit more than 800 dancers who attended the auditions have already received the letter for thier engagement and a draft of their contract. I hope to be able to provide with more info soon.

Morphoses inaugural performances in Vail begin with a workshop on August 8th and follow with an all-Wheeldon program on the 10th. The performances include Polyphonia, with dancers from New York City Ballet, Hamburg Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet coming together in this Polyphonia Project. Also on the program is After the Rain with New York City Ballet dancers and Christopher’s recent chamber ballet, Dance of the Hours that premiered last September in The Metropolitan Opera's production of La Giaconda. Letizia Giuliani from Florence will dance the role she originated at The Met, with Gonzalo Garcia, a dynamic young Spanish dancer, formerly a Principal dancer with San Francisco Ballet. The corps de ballet will be made up of dancers from Colorado Ballet, the company that gave Christopher his first break as a choreographer in the United States back in 1995.

We are thrilled to have accepted a three-year agreement as Guest Resident Company at Sadler’s Wells. In London, the program will include, Morphoses, the ballet after which the company is named, Slingerland Duet by William Forsythe, and Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante with Angel Corella and Alexandra Ansanelli. Sadler’s has commissioned two works, a duet for Alina Cojocaru and Johan Kobborg to Prokofiev’s violin concerto, and a one-act ballet for seven dancers, that will premiere there in September.

October 17 – 21, 2007 (6 performances/2 programs)
City Center, New York, NY
Our New York debut will be at City Center. The week will feature Christopher’s There Where She Loved, the pas de deux from Tryst, Morphoses, and the New York premiere of Prokofiev Pas de Deux and the one-act ballet. The Ballet Boyz will join the Company as guest artists performing Mesmerics, a work created for them by Christopher. Also included will be works by other choreographers such as Michael Clark, William Forsythe and Liv Lorent.

The company's first performance was in Vail, and the reviews are good, and the future looks positive...how many companies can boast new works by Wheeldon, Forsythe, Clark and the Ballet Boyz all in one year...

The one sour note is Macaulay's twice incorrectly referring to Bouchet & Bordin as being from the Munich Ballet. All the Vail Valley promotional literature refers to them as being members of the Hamburg Ballet, and they are still listed on the Hamburg Ballet website.

Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company celebrates its inaugural season with a New York debut at New York City Center! Founded by Christopher Wheeldon, today’s most innovative contemporary ballet choreographer, and Lourdes Lopez, former Principal Dancer with New York City Ballet and Executive Director of The George Balanchine Foundation, Morphoses aims to broaden the scope of classical ballet and maximize its innovation by fostering creativity through collaboration, and engaging a revitalized audience while redefining ballet’s future.

During its first season, Morphoses will perform several of Wheeldon’s works including Morphoses, the company's namesake. These will be augmented by an assortment of other neoclassical and contemporary pieces by William Forsythe, Michael Clark, Liv Lorent, and Edward Liang.

Narciso Rodriguez, the internationally celebrated couture designer, and the 2004 and 2005 winner of the Council of Fashion Designers of America award, has agreed to be Morphoses’ first collaborative artist for our inaugural season. Mr. Rodriguez will design the costumes to both of Wheeldon’s new works, the Prokofiev pas de deux and the much larger work for nine dancers, which features the music of the young contemporary composer, Joby Talbot’s, The Dying Swan. Both these ballets will have their American premiere at New York City Center. Mr. Rodriguez will also be working with Mr. Wheeldon on each of the ballets’ stage designs.

The dancers comprise a first-class ensemble of guest artists from leading companies such as New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and the Royal Ballet, among others.
