Do a little Dance
By Alison Kirkman for Dancing Times
How Jane Aston, Play Specialist at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Dance Teacher at The Place, is combining her work to aid children’s recovery
Children at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, recently enjoyed a performance by The Place’s Junior Dance Company. It was the first performance of its kind at the hospital and was a major step in bringing dance to the attention of other hospital staff as a therapeutic tool to aid children’s recovery.
The Place’s Junior Dance Company is made up of 18 children aged from 8-13 years. Jane Aston teaches them every Monday evening during term time and they performed a piece they had been working on called Can you do this? Afterwards they took part in a workshop so that the children from the hospital could become more actively involved. click for more
