"NEW"/OLD TAPES ON NUREYEV AND BERIOSOVARUDOLF NUREYEV, THE COMPLETE BELL TELEPHONE HOUR PERFORMANCES, 1962 - 1964In 1962, the twenty-three year old Rudolf Nureyev made the first of four appearances on the US TV programme "The Bell Telephone Hour". These famous and long sought after recordings have now appeared on video, with Nureyev dancing pas de deux from Flower Festival in Genzano, Le Corsaire, Diana and Actaeon, and Swan Lake, act III. His partners are the American ballerinas Maria Tallchief and Lupe Serrano, and, in both the last two items, the legendary Svetlana Beriosova.Considering the recordings are nearly forty years old, the quality is good (all are in colour except the last), but don't expect state-of-the-art picture quality.In addition, there is some tape "wow" in the Swan Lake section, and the video, despite its high price, plays for less than forty minutes.Nevertheless, this is an essential acquisition for any serious collector of some of the great dance performances of our time.PLEASE NOTE: the British edition is available only in PAL format: the NTSC version is produced by VAI videos in the USA.
