Our Sydney correspondent, Jennifer Leake, reports on the Sydney Olympic Arts Festival, which will feature lots of dance:
http://www.criticaldance.com/sydney/news/syd0009.html

Wouldn't I like to be there for that! It looks exciting, and I would love to become more familiar with Australian dance (in person)

i'd like to be there, too, maggie!
not for the olympics, just the arts fest.
of course, everything in sydney is costing a fortune these days, just because of the olympics pushing up property values, and all accommodation being booked way in advance, so people can command outrageous prices for anything they offer, etc.
i believe my sister just sold her very inner-city apartment there, for this very reason - some people bought into the inner city real estate market a few years ago, just to be able to sell in the lead-up to the games. huge price increases! and city rents are astronomical (and sydney has never been cheap).
still, it's a GREAT city - very stylish and vibrant, on the water...beautiful. not unlike san francisco and hong kong in some respects, but of course nowhere near as populated or built up.
i agree that jennifer has done a great job of enticing people to want to be there! The Cloudgate Dance Theater sounds so interesting. I enjoyed this review. It seems that "world dance" is developing as well as "world music" is. I hope this trend continues in this type of globalization.
