From icBirmingham

West End and Broadway hit Kiss Me Kate heads an autumn lineup at Birmingham Hippodrome theatre.

Cole Porter's masterpiece will be in the city for a two-week run from September 20 as part of a national tour.

His version of Shake-speare's Taming of the Shrew sees Fred Graham and Lilli Vanessi in an on-off romance and features favourite songs such as Too Darn Hot and So In Love.

THE Lowry's exciting new autumn and winter season features more than 70 shows....one of the highlights must be Merce Cunningham, considered by many to be the world's greatest living choreographer, and his Dance Company who, on October 15 and 16 will not only be visiting the north west for the first time in a decade but will also be creating a new work especially for The Lowry, justifiably called Event.

Ouch! Only two dance events out of 50 Autumn arts highlights in The Observer:

Autumn highlights: 1-50
From The Observer

14 Dance Umbrella 2004
Merce Cunningham's dedicated dancers, last seen at the close of Dance Umbrella 2003 in Tate Modern's Turbine Hall, open the 26th festival with a recent work, Split Sides. The order of music, by Radiohead and Icelanders Sigur Ros, will be determined at each performance by the roll of dice, as will the choice of costumes and lighting.

32 Swan Lake (Matthew Bourne)
