They wish to acknowledge and reward those artists whose skills and qualities of excellence are just as remarkable as those acclaimed by the public and the media in other sectors, such as music, opera and cinema. <P>Six awards will be attributed, rewarding performances evaluated during 1999: male dancer award, female dancer award, choreographer award, dance company award, choreographic work award and jury's special award. Each award-winner will receive 15,000 Euros. <P>The Awards will be presented by international cultural figures. <P>This occasion will be the very first time that dance will be judged on a world-wide basis by the international press.<P><BR>The voting takes place in three stages: <P>150 specialized journalists selected from 40 countries with professional choreographic activity, have proposed five candidates for each of the 6 categories.<P><BR>120 personalities from the field of dance - "experts" - proposed by the journalists will choose the nominees from the lists compiled by the journalists.<P><BR>The general public can vote via the Internet. Their vote will be combined in the proportion of 1/3, with the "expert" votes (2/3) to determine the winners. <P>The ceremony will take place in the presence of its President, the Princess of Hanover and leading personalities in culture and the arts. <P>It will be orchestrated and staged by Karl Lagerfeld. <P>The evening will be structured around: <P>the awards presentation: the Trophees Committee, in charge of presenting the awards will be made up of well-known cultural figures,<P>the screenings: presenting the nominees via a montage of documentary videos and performance videos,<P>short dance pieces will be performed by international artists illustrating the diversity of choreographic language,<P>a tribute to a great choreographic artist. <BR>The closing ceremony will be followed by a gala dinner.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
