Review: Original Choreography Fuels ‘Collaborations’

Without boldness and creativity, dance would still be in the formative stages we remember from the glittery ball scenes in Shakespeare in Love. Although seemingly archaic today, even ballet was in its time a breakthrough.

The Harvard Radcliffe Dance Company’s (HRDC) “Collaborations” Spring Concert of Modern Dance presented this past weekend in the Adams Pool Theater lacked neither boldness nor creativity.

The performance combines the talents of entertainers such as internationally known tapper Fred Strickler, founder of the Jazz Tap Ensemble and Fred Strickler and Friends; former Royal Academy dancer Denise Donovan, artistic director Christy Hernandez, one-time featured soloist with Los Angeles-based Rhapsody in Taps; Riverside Community College and University of California, Riverside, dancers; and renowned taiko artist the Rev. Tom Kurai and his Los Angeles troupe, Satori Daiko.
