'Aussie rules...Antipodean invaders at the Royal Opera, Gothic horror in the North and a Freudian Swan Lake.' Jann Parry looks forward to 2001. Her highlight is not the Kirov, but Wayne McGregor working with hs own company and the RB in existing and new work. Good for her!
http://www.observer.co.uk/Print/0,3858,4111013,00.html
Image
Leanne Benjamin in the RB 'Firebird', part of the 'Stravinsky Staged' programme.

'DANCE: Debra Craine on a year of change for British ballet — and a smashing summer.' She mentions the visit by San Francisco Ballet with one Act ballets, which is very welcome. I just wish it wasn't in the ROH. The prices will probably be 50% higher than Sadler's Wells and the sight-lines distinctly inferior.

I can understand her excitement at her three to watch. The RB Stravinsky programme promises a great deal with Nijinska's 'Les Noces' and Balanchine's 'Agon' as well as Fokine's 'The Firebird'. Here is the link to the brief RB notes on this programme:

http://www.roh.org.uk/BalletCompany/BalletRep/2000-2001/StravinskyS.htm
[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited January 05, 2001).]

A quick look ahead to the dance year 2001 from Davod Dougill. perhaps the most interesting comment is, 'Lips are still tight about the Royal Ballet's next season (opening in the autumn) under its new director, Ross Stretton, except that "unfamiliar goodies" are promised.'

http://www.sunday-times.co.uk/news/pages/sti/2001/01/07/sticuldnc01002.html
