By Albert Ross Jr. | Staff Writer

Authorities said they recovered the body of missing Augusta Ballet dancer Jaime Burcham Sunday off the coast of Harbor Island.

Officers with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources found Mr. Burcham about 11:45 a.m. in the water 300-yards from where he had been in the water with friends the day before, said spokesman Lt. Robert McCullough. The victim had been last seen Saturday St. Helena Sound between Harbor and Hunting Islands.

This is really sad. I think it's so incredibly important to teach kids how to swim and float in water. My dad is a very good swimmer and my uncle used to work marine patrol (pulling lots of dead bodies out of the lake). They made all of us kids learn survival floating and swimming when we were no older than toddlers. I'm always scared when I'm in a canoe with adult friends and they announce that we better not tip over because they can't swim.
