Thanks for this detailed description Jeff of your visit, Jeff. Anyone undertaking a dance research project will probably visit the NYCPL at some stage in their studies.

Interestingly, in the UK further degrees in dance are shifting to a more practise based approach. This now extends to PhD level where a thesis may be a combination of a dance piece plus associated written research.

Thus Laban haas dropped its post-grad Dance Studies course which used to feature Dance and Sociology, Dance and Aesthetics and Dance and Politics. I suspect we may see less rather than more pure academic writing on dance from the Uk at least. Maybe it's not so surprising that a non-verbal art form is focussing more on non-verbal research.
