After reading the forum several times and finally 'meeting' Basheva on another site, i thought I would 'introduce' myself. I am a retired ballet dancer (soloist/principal with Eliot Feld's old company - before Ballet Tech -, Chicago Ballet, under Ben Stevenson's very brief directorship, and Ballet Chicago with Maria Tallchief. I now teach full-time, freelancing in several studios. No plans to retire from this phase in my dance life; this is definitely a "life sentence with no parole". Welcome Cabriole - it so very nice to see you here!!
The ballet is a most jealous mistress, she does not let go easily of her devotees. And, we the willing worshipers.........

dear cabriole, i am thrilled to see that you know of us!
i have read your posts with admiration at danceart for at least a year now....and have noticed that you seem to be the technique/teaching mainstay of that board - along with a small committed team of excellent teacher advisors - i don't know how much of that impression is official, and how much is just the way things appear to be, but i admire your work, and would be thrilled to see you play a part here, as well.
a very warm welcome from me, and happy christmas! I echo everyone else's welcome, and have a few questions I'd like to pester you with in the near future, but I guess for now I'll just be the immature member who asks, "Did you know Patrick Swayze during your tenure with the Feld company?" I am sooooooo embarrassed to be asking you that (but not too much to go ahead and ask it). Now, I'll go tuck my tail between my legs and exit this post.

Yes, Christina, I did dance with Patrick in Eliot's co. and I'll leave it at that (no random gossip on the 'net for me), but feel free to ask other types of questions
[This message has been edited by Cabriole (edited December 26, 2000).]
[This message has been edited by Cabriole (edited December 26, 2000).]

I didn't either. I thought Swayze danced with Joffrey. But how would I know since I wasn't there. Way after my time.

But-but-but-I only knew cuz I was watching an episode of "Biography" on the A&E channel. See, I do have SOME intellectual leanings, you guys (even if I did see "Dirty Dancing" 33 times [it was also Gilda Radner's favorite movie to watch over and over again while she was dying] and saw the "Dirty Dancing" road show at a NJ amphitheater).
And I promise SERIOUS questions soon -- say, maybe you can comment about what my classmate and former Feld dancer told me about the old days of smoke-filled dance and rehearsal studios ... in general, are dancers and dance environments growing healthier or not? And do they have more longevity now with all of our advances in medicine and technology?

cabriole - might i ask why you chose this screen-name?...is this your favourite step?

Post subject: Re: Another Introduction

To answer Grace's question, no cabriole isn't my favorite step (though I do like it). There was really no special reason behind it other than when first entering the cyber world last year, I wanted a 'ballet' name that didn't appear to be already 'claimed'.
