Post subject: What's in a name?

As you will have noticed, we have been having a bit of a Spring clean here at criticaldance and one of the remaining items on our list of possible changes is the name of the site.
What's your view? Does it give a flavour of what the site is about? Does it sound too negative? Is it not very important, as long as dance appears somewhere and persuades you to try the site?
Do tell us, as we have been agonising over this issue, as it is probably now or never, as there is clearly a downside to changing once you have become known.

My vote is against changing it as the name seems easy for most people to remember. And we are also now fairly well known in some communities. Therefore, I would rather we keep the name. What do others think?

I think the name is good and the connotations of the word critical suitable. When I first heard of the site I had the impression perhaps something critically important was going on.

Many thanks to those who have expressed their views. We need to make a decision on this soon now, so I remain very keen to hear the views of as many people as possible, as it would be a great help to us and at least give us more confidence in any steps that take.
So, I'm going to put a deadline on this discussion of midnight (PST) Tuesday 2nd May.
Speak now or forever hold thy piece.

Well, to me the name implies a critical juncture in dance. It also eludes to "critical mass," in which dance fans can still make a difference when it comes to viewing dance, instead of allowing a handful of critics dictate the direction of this art form.

Oh, I forgot to add that many people have told me it is an easy name for them to remember. I suppose they think it's "stylish."

Maybe swapping the words around could solve the search engine problem, make it
dancecritical

Michael, thanks for the thought. This was an issue that I was worried about, but Tim Martin has recently told us that the name criticaldance is not a problem with regard to the search engines.

Well to be honest, as a dancer the name sort of always hit me the wrong way, but since everyone else was ok with it, I never said anything. It seemed more suited to that OTHER site.
