Hi, folks! Anybody from my area? I tried doing a few searches and didn't find much in my fair city.
Anyhow, I'm just a fan. I'm not in the kind of health to dance, but it's beautiful to watch. I went to the Nutcracker maybe three years ago. It was put on by California Ballet in downtown San Diego at the Civic Center. The Nutcracker is a great holiday thing to do, and I am very drawn into the costuming, especially with Clara, with her ribbons and frill.
When I attended college in Vermont, I was part of an improvisational dance club of sorts that would meet at an old colonial house in Putney back in the 90's. I also got to attend a Bela Lewitsky performance (not sure if it was her troupe, or just something in her style) at nearby Keene State College in New Hampshire. That's modern dance, but it was beautiful.
Recently, it came to light that my city's opera was having trouble, and was/is in danger of folding. I'm not huge on opera, but I just like the idea that a major city like San Diego should have a full complement of the fine arts, performing or otherwise. That got me thinking about ballet, and what a great art it is.
Not sure where I am going with my intro. I guess I'm just here to learn more. I'm 38 and male and live in Hillcrest, San Diego. Also a fan of gymnastics and soccer (M and W), and an avid, if occasional, traveler.
