Congratulations to all the readers, posters and Moderators of the 'Ballet' forum for bringing up the 10,000th post in under 3 years. 'Ballet' chalks this up, following in the footsteps of the 'Studio', where postings about ballet are also in a majority, as they are in 'Danser' too.
When we started CriticalDance we were determined that other performance dance forms would be given an equal opportunity on the Board, especially as some of the most dynamic work in dance today is arguably created under the Modern or World dance headings. I like to think we have achieved that with the help of devotees around the world.
Nevertheless, it is clear that there remains a huge demand for ballet, which is also winning new devotees in areas such as Asia on a daily basis. I accept that few if any regard the current scene as a Golden Age for new ballet choreography. Nevertheless, the audiences for ballet worldwide and the rise of fine young artists like Alina Cojocaru, Yuan Yuan Tan and many others shows that those who describe ballet as 'ruined' or 'disappearing over the horizon' are overstating their case.
Long may we continue to enjoy Bournonville, Petipa, Balanchine, Ashton, MacMillan, Forsythe and the many others who have made major contributions to the art form. And don't forget to continue to tell fans worldwide about your enjoyment of ballet, here on CriticalDance.

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited June 17, 2002).]
