I'm an archaeologist by training, which explains my user name; I became involved in dance when my daughter began to take dance classes. I started to help backstage, first at the end of year student demonstrations, and later, when the studio formed a youth company, I found myself organising the backstage and dressing room volunteers - more because no-one else wanted the job than because I was any good at it.
Last weekend, we put on our first major production at a professional theatre - "Alice in Wonderland" at the Rich Forum in Stamford, Connecticut. It was a great success, but an exhausting, and educational experience.
Fran
Welcome, Fran! Glad you're here. And I'm glad your performance was a success. Working production is tiring, but then so's dancing! It's just the folks backstage have a few advantages....
- All our outfits match - because they're all black.
- We know good stories
- We're probably the only ones who know where the coffee pot is stored.
At any rate, welcome aboard!
Barb

Let me join Babs in wishing you a warm welcome........glad to have you with us.
Now - let me tell you the advantages of being on the stage rather than backstage....
Your feet get to hurt
The costume is itchy
Makeup runs
Floor is slippery
orchestra is too slow/fast/loud/soft
uh oh - this was supposed to be advantages wasn't? Well, we love what we are doing just like the backstage folks...and we couldn't be front stage without them.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I certainly liked the fact that my costume was more comfortable than any of the dancers', but I do have to tell you that my feet hurt too.
